God is Enough

In a time of such great uncertainty as we are currently living in, it is important for us to remember that God is with us. I find that in times of stress, I tend to try to solve everything myself, without relying on God to help me do what I cannot do myself. It takes wisdom for us to discern what action God expects us to take and where we need to rely on God. Generally speaking, I need to do what I can do. But what is beyond me, I need to give to God. Our souls will remain restless until we can hand over to God what is beyond our power. I was reminded of God's sufficiency this week when I came across Psalm 121. Here it is in its entirety:

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—

    where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the Lord,

    the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip—

    he who watches over you will not slumber;

4 indeed, he who watches over Israel

    will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord watches over you—

    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;

6 the sun will not harm you by day,

    nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—

    he will watch over your life;

8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going

    both now and forevermore.

I hope this week that you will take this verse to heart and remember that whatever it is that you are facing, God is with you. Maybe you're trying to figure out how all of the uncertainty in the world is going to work out. Let it go. Just trust God. Maybe you feel like you are trying to do too many things every week. Take action. Carve out some time for rest, for prayer, for quiet. Then trust God to grant you insight into what is the best way to prioritize your remaining time. You may discover that you actually get many more important things done with less stress in the process.

Life is a series of events that take place largely beyond our own control. If we attempt to play God and try to control everything that is beyond our control, we will feel our blood pressure begin to rise and our stress levels go up. We must let go of that which is beyond our control and trust that God is enough. Let that thought sink in for a moment. God is enough. It is going to be all right. God is enough.

May you experience the help that "comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth" this week.
